ZINGARELLA

Janice Mautner Markham and Melinda West - folktastic violin and accordion troubadours, perform an exciting contemporary mix of Traditional Klezmer, American Songbook Standards and Latin Tango with a twist of Gypsy Jazz. They are at home serenading at a sidestreet cafe, a world music festival or a concert hall, and have performed on the eastside of Los Angeles at Pico Union Project and on the westside on The Broad Stage. Their audiences stretch across generations, as they perform timeless melodies with stories for schoolchildren as well as for the Cafe Europa Holocaust survivors groups.

Janice Mautner Markham plays violin in the Klezmer Gypsy-rock band Mostly Kosher (Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ford Amphitheater, Skirball Cultural Center, Disney California Adventure), is director of the Jewish Youth Orchestra, The JAC Trio string ensemble, and is Artistic Director of the arts nonprofit Vox Box Arts Collective. Melinda is accordionist/ pianist and rambunctious singing frontwoman of the stompfolk band Sugar Rum Tantrum (Broke LA Festival, Tiny Desk Latin X Finalist). She is also founder of We the Folk (Troubadour, Teragram). As an accordionist, she has played Disney World with Mostly Kosher, performed with Lucent Dossier, for Marianne Williamson and most recently at the Hollywood Bowl.

Janice and Melinda have performed their funky zinging renditions of traditional and modern folk tunes with a fast and cohesive flair, with an upcoming performance on Aug 3rd 2019 at the Skirball Cultural Center. Their tightly arranged pieces, mixed with their cleverly mismatched clothing have have audiences anticipating whatever surprise they bring to the stage.
